LOTR reunion photos (oh frabjous day!)

Entertainment Weekly is doing a Cast Reunion Issue, and they have photos of of LotR actors looking happy and fabulous! They're from May and July of this year, and successfully hidden from fans until right now. There's a small photo of Dom, Elijah and Sean Astin on the front cover and three other photos of them, a gorgeous one of Bernard Hill, Sean Bean, Peter Jackson, Orlando, Billy and Andy, a photo of Hugo, Miranda, Cate and Ian McKellan (I know!), and a two page spread of Orlando and Pete. Oooo, I just found a Dom, Elijah and Sean article... The text here and in the magazine is OK, the pictures are priceless!

Let us all praise EW and [ profile] primula_baggins who made scans of all of them to share!
fangirl squee to the max! )

There's also video! Dom, Elijah, and Sean were filmed doing the photoshoot and telling stories, also on the on the EW site. embedded video behind the cut ) [ profile] rakshi already has screencaps!

It's like someone decided to cheer up my whole week, and I'm going to bed a happy fangirl, (especially if more people sign up for [ profile] slashababy!)

Billy Boyd is not broke (tabloid lies spread quickly)

Truth: from a nice long interview in, Billy being modest about money:

Q: you ever tempted to retire after Lord of the Rings and just go and live the good life in the sun somewhere?
A: I don’t have any money!

Q: You must have a couple of dimes?
A: But we were unknown actors – we did it for peanuts, and for food.

Lies: a fake teaser line (not a pullquote): LORD of the Rings actor Billy Boyd claims he is broke and earned very little from the films and a provactive photo caption: Penniless... Boyd.

This lie was started by The Sun online (I have screecaps), It's been picked up by a lot of celebrity news sides and blogs, including on [ profile] ohnotheydidnt. But now there's a lengthy reply on ONTD and I hope we can be calm on LJ a least.

ETA: he's in Sunshine on Leith, lucky UK people!

fandom happies

[ profile] help_pakistan is a fandom auction set up to help Pakistan recover from the recent floods, with 180% of normal monsoon season rain. Apparently the causes include deforestation, population growth, and climate change. The community is a nice way to give together.

Fanvid! Love the Way You Lie, The Gay Hobbit Remix - Merry and Pippin instead of Dom and Megan Fox, it's fabulous!

Orlando 'really excited' over baby )

Late to the party: we saw Inception. We didn't buy most of the premises and the emotional distance, and even Ed got bored with the video-game chases, shootouts, and bombs. Inception is full of hot men (yay!), and Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard (yay!), but wow, it needs lots of fix-it fic, and my slash goggles are apparently non-existent. Eames/Arthur??? Convince me?

LOTR cast news

(I still love them so much, and I still don't know why.)

Orlando got married to his girlfriend of several years, Miranda Kerr. They've been all cuddly and cute in public lately, and pretty much eloped to the Caribbean in July to get married without fuss. Now there are rumors of impending parenthood. And there's wank, in the usual places.

Sean Bean is getting divorced, for the forth time. However lovely or annoying he might be, he's clearly un-domestic and goes off filming around the world (Ukraine, South Africa, Ireland in the last few months). Or he's pining for Viggo, anything's possible ;-)

Elijah burbles happily about music - in this case, mostly random vinyl he hasn't actually listened to.

Billy is playing the lead in Sunshine on Leith, a musical set to Proclaimers songs, how I wish I could go see it! It was Billy at TORn and [ profile] berreh who introduced me to The Proclaimers, and I really like them, it would be bliss to see it, sigh.

Here's Billy's first video-blog-thing, just him on camera, looking good and being charming. But... he does this horrible scrunching up his forehead thing, sort-of like a TNG Klingon, from 2 min 35 seconds onwards. I'm not usually critical about looks, I'm fine with them getting older, but this is awful, please, make it go away Billy!

Let the Academic AUs flourish!

Orlando got an honorary degree from the University of Canterbury last week. They seem to have kept some nice traditions. The robe is Tudor, the hat is Elizabethan, the wig in the back of #3 is Georgian. A story could be set pretty much any time in English history from 1580 up to now. From here, thank you [ profile] mata090680!

fandom is my (mostly) happy place

Dom and Sean Bean are in a movie about bored rich guys playing war (ETA: it's currently called "Soldier of Fortune" and there's more info and pictures on [ profile] dom_media (members only) and the Dominic Monaghan Resource.)

I looove this photo Dom and Sean Bean dressed as soldiers )

This is not a beecake )

I don't usually inspire fic, but [personal profile] lannamichaels asked for a prompt and wrote a bittersweet 10-year-anniversary Lotrips fic: We Are Famous; Our Hearts Are Legends. The second-to-last line totally gets to me.

And as part of that fandom clan wank*, [ profile] mochibuni wrote: I bet JK Rowling is thrilled, fucking thrilled I tell you, that Harry is having a Slytherin leather pants gang bang somewhere with Hermione watching over the proceedings while sitting on top of a gilded hippogriff throne I challenged her to write it, and she did, even more crackficcy! with JRR Tolkien as her unsympathetic psychotherapist: The JK Rowling Sessions.
* my only comment on the clan wank is that articulate people should not reply quickly and publicly when someone seems to attack them or things they love. Actually, none of us should post in public in that situation, but the more eloquent a writer, the bigger a hole they dig for themselves.

Billy interview at TORn

"Billy gave us a little insight into the band, his musical tastes and influences, and his feelings about the upcoming tour. Exclusive: Billy Boyd Interview!"

It's a nice rambling interview, I can almost hear his voice as I read it

Apparently, when the interview took place, Billy was filming in Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada), for a TV miniseries of 'Moby Dick' (shades of 'Master and Commander'). Which would make sense, because the 'Adrenaline Junkie' thing was filmed in Canada too.

More Billy!

Alan Cumming, safer sex, pro-condom

Alan Cumming's made a wildly sex-positive anti-AIDS video Absent Abstinence

attempt to embed the video )

The Scotsman has a transcript and some more great quotes:

[Alan] introduces a former lover and states: "This is Matt. We had sex once and it was really great. Then Matt started going out with Heather and we all had sex together once which was really nice. We would have done it again but they split up."

Abstain? Make stains more like. Please wear a condom and shag away. )

Alan also wrote an article for Newsweek, What is a gay icon?, with some interesting thoughts on fabulous ladies and queer culture.

happy-making vids

dashery rocks! I so needed something cheerful this week :-)

"Boom De Ya Da (I Love the Whole World) - LOTR": ( )

"Dom & Billy - I Got U" ( )

PS - Viggo was much more coherent on the BBC on Monday morning, and that night cinema panel on Good than he was at the Sunday night awards show. Which is a good thing, cos wow.

Yet More Viggo/Sean Lurve from Tonight

So Viggo won the "Empire Icon Award": (this part completely lifted from the Empire Online Blog)

"The Empire Icon, given to a talent who, in the eyes of Empire and its readers, is so much more than a star, they have reached the status of icon."

Bean: "It's a real pleasure to be here tonight to present this award to an actor who's a very good friend of mine. The work I did with him will always stay in my heart. Let's see the man in action."

AND THE WINNER IS... VIGGO MORTENSEN (cue some bromance)

Viggo's speech includes some dumb jokes, thanks for Empire's support of LOTR and The Hobbit, and a tribute to Alan Howard, who originated the role of John Halder in 'Good' on stage )

And I got my hot little hands on some actual decent-sized photos of the two of them. I'm not cutting the thumbnails because they're too good to hide, and any click should take you to the MQ version.

Viggo & Sean at the Empire Awards, now!

Tonight is the UK Empire awards, sadly not broadcast. But sammie323 on the LOTRInfo group at yahoo) shared a page of photo thumbnails with Sean (and Georgina?), Viggo by himself and with Jason Isaacs:

So I checked Twitter for near-real-time updates using this search string: and found the empiremagazine twitter account which just confirmed that Sean and Viggo are there (though it says "Jason Isaacs - the nicest man alive TM"). But the best one is Heleno84 who is "is unexpectedly discombobulated at the sight of Viggo Mortensen and Sean Bean chatting away. Like, GOSH!"

Empire magazine live blog has a bit more, and apparently there will be video tomorrow morning.

lotrips fandom goodness

We actually made it to I Sell the Dead at the SF Indie Film Festival, and it was quite good. Darling, even. More comedy than horror, so I didn't have to hide too much. I didn't realize Dom narrates the whole thing, and I do love his voice. I even wrote a review on IMDB, I liked it that much :-)

together, clowning around at the Independent Spirit Awards. Squeeeee! Small pictures now, I'm sure there are more to come. spikessweetgirl brought those first links.

Good is playing at the Contra Costa Jewish Film Festival, March 5 (scroll way down or do a page search for Viggo). It's way out in the plastic suburb of Pleasanton, but I'm going anyway. If anyone else is going, I'd like to meet up.

Ian's King Lear is showing on PBS Great Performances in March. It's on KQED, on Wednesday, Mar 25, at 8:00 pm. As they are broadcasting in High Def, and we have a new TV, I am hosting a Viewing Party, and hope some people will join me. Note that he did not do that scene nude, for whatever reason.

There. I feel much better!

happy lotrips fandom things

Viggo-Works has interviewed Viggo and got answers about his plans for this year, Perceval Press, books he's reading, and more :-)

The community bestorlando has a ton of great pictures of Orlando playing a rock star in a new movie.

dom_media and domweek have lots of Dom at Sundance and on the TV show "Chuck", including his interview with Craig Ferguson.

elijah_finds has photos of Elijah at Sundance, in LA and with Dom during the super bowl.

I'm sure there's more, though pretty low on Billy and Sean Bean news... anyone?

And I've been updating lotrips with all the fic I can find just about every week, so there's something for everyone! (If I'm missing anything, please let me know).</a>

Viggo the fanboy (hockey this time)

It seems the Montreal Canadiens are not, in fact, celebrating their 100th season. If they were, how could their CH logo have been worn in the mythological time of Middle Earth, beneath the battle garments of Aragorn in Lord of the Rings?

Ask the future king of Gondor himself.

"The classic white, beat-up Canadiens T-shirt I wore under Aragorn's clothes gave me just a little more power with the sword," says actor Viggo Mortensen, who played the lead role in the film adaptations of J. R. R. Tolkien's classic tale.

-- Stars on Ice (National Post, Canada)

I can't stop giggling.

Dom at Slamdance, possibly SF

Dom's horror/comedy independent film, I Sell the Dead was at Slamdance, the low-rent adjunct of Sundance. So there are a ton of interviews and photos from Utah today, mostly in dom_media, and I especially direct your attention to the tight leather trousers ones :-) [info]nothing_to_say has been very good to us tonight.

I Sell the Dead is coming to the SF Indiefest in Fabruary, and I read somewhere on their site that they might have some of the actors showing up, but who knows? I will try to keep checking, and update in various places if I find out. Let's see if we can get a fangirl contingent to go and squee together.
